Travel Diaries: Corsica – An Adventure Between Bastia, Cap Corse and Saint Florent
Travel Diaries: Corsica, An Adventure Between Bastia, Cap Corse and Saint Florent
Our trip to Corsica took us to discover enchanting and lesser-known corners of the island, starting from Bastia and continuing towards the wonders of Cap Corse, until arriving at the picturesque Saint Florent. It was an experience that allowed us to immerse ourselves in the local culture, between sea, food and artisanal traditions.
Bastia: The Gateway to Corsica
Our journey began in Bastia, a vibrant and historic city overlooking the sea. Walking through the old port, we were fascinated by the colorful boats and the peeling facades of the buildings, which tell stories of sailors and traders. The old town, with its narrow streets and hidden squares, offered us suggestive views and a rare sense of authenticity. We couldn't resist stopping in one of the many local cafes to enjoy a Corsican coffee, surrounded by the chatter of the inhabitants.
Capo Corso: The Wild Finger
Continuing north, we explored Cap Corse, known as the “finger” of Corsica. This narrow and wild stretch of land is a succession of breathtaking landscapes: cliffs overlooking the sea, small fishing villages and beaches hidden among the coves. One of our stops was Macinaggio, a quiet village where time seems to have stopped. Here, we walked along the customs officers’ path, enjoying spectacular views and the scent of the Mediterranean scrub.
Saint Florent: The Little Saint-Tropez of Corsica
Our journey then took us to Saint Florent, a town that combines the charm of an old fishing village with a worldly atmosphere. Strolling along the port, we admired luxurious yachts alongside traditional boats, a symbol of the mix of old and new that characterizes this town. We couldn't leave Saint Florent without visiting one of its famous wine cellars, where we tasted local wines, including the renowned Patrimonio.
An Artisanal Experience
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting an artisanal ceramics workshop. In Nebbiu, we had the opportunity to see with our own eyes how ceramic vases are made, carefully and precisely by local artisans. It was fascinating to observe the creative process and understand how much effort and dedication are needed to keep these centuries-old traditions alive.
When we left Corsica, we took with us not only memories of breathtaking landscapes and delicious local flavors, but also a deep respect for the traditions and culture of this land. Bastia, Cap Corse and Saint Florent are places that have won us over with their authenticity and beauty. We already know that we will return: Corsica is an island that invites you to discover it more and more, with each visit.
