Idda & Iddu — “Her and Him” — is a pair of ceramic sculpture tiles hand-painted by Artema Galli. Two faces are created on a sand background using black, ocher, brown, and blue outlines, with a deliberately textured surface. The project originates from the ceramic tradition of Santo Stefano di Camastra.

Product Description

Idda & Iddu was conceived as a dialogue. The two tiles share technique, palette, and graphic language, but the faces maintain distinct identities and acquire greater meaning precisely when viewed together.

Artema Galli uses a sandy surface on which she builds the features with dark outlines and warmer fills. The artist describes the finish as being similar to a "spolvero" (pouncing technique), creating a texture that maintains a connection with the ceramic material.

They can be displayed side-by-side on a shelf, above some books, or mounted as a small pair on a wall. I would avoid treating them as normal wall tiles: their value is primarily sculptural and pictorial.

Use and Care

Do not wet the tiles. Dust exclusively with a soft, dry cloth.

The Charm of Handmade

The two faces are not produced from a print and retain variations in line, glaze, and surface. It is precisely this difference that makes the dialogue between "Her" and "Him" authentic.
