Bilico originates from a simple shape that chooses not to be symmetrical. An open U, with two ends of different heights, creates an unusual visual balance and transforms this ceramic vase into a small piece of domestic architecture. The butter yellow color and the chalky surface of the GESSO collection soften its graphic character, allowing the form to take center stage.

Product Description

Bilico starts from an immediate image: a two-pan balance translated into an abstract form. However, there is no search for symmetry. One end rises higher than the other, the two openings tilt differently, and the weight of the ceramic seems to continuously shift from one side to the other.

It is precisely this slight instability that makes it interesting. The void enclosed by the U becomes as much a part of the design as the material itself, and, by changing the point of observation, the silhouette loses its apparent simplicity to reveal depth and volume. The result is a compact, graphic sculpture-vase, capable of functioning even without any added elements.

The butter yellow hue, on the other hand, introduces a softer and more unexpected note. It is not a neutral color, but not aggressive either: on the particular matte surface of the GESSO collection, it takes on a full, almost dusty appearance, highlighting the internal curves and softened edges of the form.

Bilico is conceived and designed by CASAKŪ and handcrafted in Indonesia. Like the other ceramic vases in the GESSO collection, it is finished using a technique developed with the artisans that involves the use of a plaster primer. It is this treatment that gives the ceramic its characteristic chalky, soft, and deeply matte surface.

An object positioned halfway between artistic ceramics and contemporary design, suitable for a bookshelf, a console, or a low surface where it can also be observed from the side. It can be left completely empty or accompanied by dried elements, keeping the geometry of the vase legible.

The interior is left raw and unsealed: the vase is not suitable for holding water.
