Contrappunto is a designer ceramic vase with a low, wide, and slightly compressed shape. The body develops horizontally, while the small neck, shifted towards one end, deliberately breaks the symmetry and adds movement to the silhouette. The chocolate color, made velvety by the finish of the GESSO collection, accentuates its warm and material character.

Product Description

In Contrappunto, everything stems from a deliberately unusual proportion. The body does not aim for the typical vertical thrust of a vase, but instead widens and lowers to assume an almost reclining shape. From this soft mass emerges a small, lateral neck, off-center just enough to shift the balance of the entire figure.

It is precisely this apparent simplicity that makes it interesting. The continuous profile, without superimposed decorations, allows the curve, visual weight, and asymmetry to define the object. Viewed frontally, it appears compact; observed from a three-quarter angle, it gains depth and more clearly reveals the sculptural character of its form.

Contrappunto is part of a trio of ceramic vases designed by CASAKŪ as variations on the theme of rounded volume. They can coexist in the same hue, be juxtaposed with different colors, or be chosen individually. In this version, its low and wide proportions allow it to function particularly well on its own, as a presence on a coffee table, a credenza, or a deep shelf.

The chocolate color reinforces the connection to the material. It is a warm, earthy yet sophisticated tone that naturally complements woods, light stones, travertine, burnished metals, and neutral fabrics. On the specific GESSO finish, it loses all its sheen and takes on a softer, deeper, almost powdery appearance.

Each object is conceived and designed by CASAKŪ and subsequently handcrafted in Indonesia. For the GESSO collection, a specific process was developed with artisans, involving the application of a plaster primer on the ceramic: it is this step that creates the opaque, chalky surface distinguishing the collection.

Contrappunto thus interprets contemporary artistic ceramics through proportion rather than ornamentation. A designer vase with a calm presence, intended to enter a space without overwhelming it and to be observed as a small architectural volume.

The interior is left raw and unsealed: the vase is not suitable for holding water. It can be used as a standalone decorative object or accompanied by branches and dry arrangements.
