The Socarrats Tiles of Valencia are decorative clay elements made and hand-painted according to Valencian tradition. Red ochre and manganese define an essential graphic sign on a matte and textured surface. They are available in the El Pez and El Butoni variants, two subjects linked to local imagery.

Product Description

The Socarrat brings an essential, direct, and strongly graphic language to the clay surface. Few colors, a clean line, and a deliberately opaque material are enough to create an object that can be read both as a testament to Valencian tradition and as a small contemporary decorative work.

The variants selected by Vicode feature two different subjects. "El Pez" develops a stylized marine figure, while "El Butoni" introduces a character linked to local folklore. The common technique and palette allow them to be paired without the two pieces losing their individuality.

Rather than using them as normal wall tiles, I would enhance them as objects: placed on a shelf, individually mounted on a wall, or grouped in a small composition. The textured surface dialogues particularly well with dark woods, stone, burnished iron, and more polished ceramics.

Use and care

The original card indicates not to wet the piece. Dust with a soft, completely dry cloth, without detergents.

The charm of handmade

The decoration is not printed: differences in the stroke, in the saturation of the pigments, and in the surface of the clay make each Socarrat individual. It is precisely this controlled irregularity that maintains the readability of the object's artisanal origin.
