Tessera – Terracotta-Colored Ceramic Design Vase

Tessera was conceived not as an isolated form, but as an encounter between two volumes. CASAKŪ designed this pair so that their profiles can come close to interlocking, like two puzzle pieces. However, they are not mirror images: each vase maintains its own proportions, curves, and inclinations.

In this piece, the body is wide and compact. The line rises slowly on one side, while on the other it reaches an off-center neck through a sharper curve. The asymmetry does not appear as a deformation, but as the characteristic that balances the entire silhouette.

It is a form that works particularly well when viewed in space. Frontally, it appears almost compact; from a three-quarter view, the volume, thickness, and slight torsion of the profile emerge, preventing the object from becoming static.

Tessera was designed to interact with its complementary piece, but it does not need the pair to find its own identity. Used individually, it becomes a sculptural vase with a quiet presence; placed alongside the other form, it reveals the original idea of the design and creates a more articulated composition.

The terracotta color emphasizes the connection with the material without trying to imitate natural terracotta. On the unique GESSO surface, it takes on a dry, powdery appearance: the color remains warm, but the complete absence of shine gives it a more contemporary quality, easy to combine with stone, travertine, dark woods, linen, and burnished metals.

Each piece is conceived and designed by CASAKŪ and then handcrafted in Indonesia. For the GESSO collection, a specific technique was developed with the artisans, involving the application of a plaster primer, responsible for the soft, matte, and tactile finish that characterizes the surface.

Tessera thus interprets contemporary artistic ceramics through a very simple principle: two forms can acquire meaning in the way they meet. An object that maintains its autonomy, but is born thinking about its relationship with what is next to it.

The interior remains unglazed and unsealed: the vase is not suitable for holding water. It can be used as a standalone decorative object or with exclusively dried flowers, branches, and elements.
