Mufida's Black Basket is a Sejnane ceramic sculpture that reinterprets the structure of woven containers through terracotta. The low, circular profile is defined by hand-molded vertical ribs, while firing under straw creates a black, opaque, and textured surface. A sculptural centerpiece from the Malles x Vicode collection.

Product Description

Mufida transfers the memory of woven baskets into the earth. The volume is low, open, and circular, but the surface is not treated as a continuous wall: a sequence of vertical ribs marks its perimeter and creates a rhythm similar to that of plant fibers.

These reliefs alter the perception of the shape throughout the day. Light falls on the protruding parts, while the indentations remain darker and deeper. The structure thus appears different depending on the viewing angle, while maintaining a stable and compact geometry.

The black color results from the contact between clay and the smoke produced during firing under straw. The surface is not coated with industrial glaze and retains transitions from anthracite to charcoal. The basket finds an ideal place in the center of a low table, on a console, or a sideboard, left empty or used to collect a few dry objects.

Use and care

Terracotta is porous and not intended to hold water, food, or wet substances. Use the basket as a decorative sculpture or for small dry objects. Dust with a soft, completely dry cloth.

The charm of handmade

The ribs are individually sculpted and do not follow a perfectly regular repetition. The black also varies in intensity along the surface, recording the action of fire and smoke. A sculpture selected by Vicode for its ability to connect weaving, earth, and domestic memory.
