• Unique Handcrafted Piece

Spinosa is a large sculptural ceramic bowl from Sejnane, hand-moulded by the artisan Hanene. The open volume is surrounded by imposing conical reliefs, while firing under straw creates a black surface with grey and metallic reflections.

The craftsmanship belongs to the ceramic traditions of the women of Sejnane, recognized by UNESCO.

Product Description

Spinosa does not present itself as a traditional vessel, but as a shape placed to protect its own center. The wide internal cavity is surrounded by a crown of outward-projecting spikes, defining a clear material boundary and transforming the bowl into an almost ritual presence.

Hanene models each relief separately and integrates it into the still-soft body. The spikes are not perfectly identical: they vary in inclination, height, and distance, creating a lively sequence, far from the regularity of an industrial module. Side lighting highlights this rhythm and amplifies the contrast between the shiny tops and the shaded areas.

The dark surface is created by firing under straw. The smoke penetrates the clay, producing transitions from charcoal black to metallic gray; polishing with river stones completes the process without erasing its primordial appearance. Due to its size and weight, Spinosa is designed as a sculptural centerpiece, to be left free on a stable surface.

Use and care
Sejnane terracotta is naturally porous. Use the bowl as a sculpture or to hold compositions and dry objects; do not insert water or food. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth.

The charm of handmade
Each spike preserves Hanene's gesture and rhythm, while the firing creates a finish that cannot be predicted or replicated. Spinosa is an individual work, selected by Vicode for its ability to transform a traditional technique into a radical and contemporary form.
