Brown Bark – Geometric Sculpture in Glazed Ceramic

Corte Bruna packs a structure that seems to belong to a much larger scale into just fifteen centimetres. The square perimeter defines a precise frame; within it, two horizontal elements advance towards the centre and divide the void without closing it.

The sensation is that of observing a small, sectioned piece of architecture. There are passages, planes, openings and depths, but no element has a real function: only the geometric construction and the way it interacts with light remain.

From the front, Corte Bruna appears almost like a three-dimensional drawing. However, simply moving a few degrees changes the composition. The internal planes gain thickness, some openings are perspectively compressed, and others become deeper. It is a sculpture that requires observation from multiple viewpoints.

The brown glaze accentuates this quality. On the front and inner surfaces, it produces more intense reflections and deep shadows, while the light sides visually lighten the mass. The contrast is not only chromatic: it immediately makes the front, depth, and construction legible.

The small variations in the glaze, the imperfectly uniform edges, and the traces of the material remain visible. It is precisely this tension between rigorous geometry and an inevitably imperfect surface that gives the sculpture its character.

Selected in La Bisbal d’Empordà, Corte Bruna joins the Echi di Geometria collection, where Vicode observes geometric forms and open structures as autonomous objects, transforming them into architectural presences on a reduced scale.

Placed on a bookcase, a shelf, or a console, it works particularly well when it can also be observed from the side and when there is enough space behind it for the openings to continue to interact with the surroundings.
