Brown Eclipse – Geometric Sculpture in Glazed Terracotta

Eclisse Bruna arises from the confrontation of two elementary forms: a compact square and a circle that almost completely subtracts its center.

From the front, the design appears essential, almost absolute. The large circular void concentrates the gaze and transforms the dark perimeter into a frame. Observing the sculpture from another angle, however, the initial simplicity gives way to a much more complex construction.

The body is, in fact, composed of parallel planes that generate depth. The circle is not simply cut out of a surface: it passes through a real thickness, creating a cavity and modifying its own prospective geometry when viewed from the side.

It is precisely this transition from line to volume that gives the object its character. From the front, the relationship between the square and the circle predominates; from three-quarters, however, matter, distance, shadow, and structure emerge.

The very dark brown enamel, close to black, makes the surface deep and reflective. Variations in light make some areas appear almost black and others warmer, while the natural color of the terracotta remains visible on the upper and side edges. The contrast highlights how the sculpture is constructed and prevents the glazed surface from completely concealing the material.

The small irregularities, variations in the enamel, and visible marks on the edges are not corrected: they are part of the piece's ceramic identity and introduce a manual component into an otherwise extremely rigorous geometry.

Selected in La Bisbal d'Empordà, Eclisse Bruna belongs to the Echi di Geometria collection, where Vicode observes openings, modules, and structures as small autonomous architectures, capable of changing through light and point of view.

On a shelf, a bookcase, or a console, it can function as an isolated graphic element. By leaving the space behind it free, what is glimpsed through the circle enters the composition and temporarily becomes part of the sculpture.

Eclisse Bruna is a unique piece. The variations in enamel, terracotta, and surface are part of its identity and make its presence unrepeatable.

Glazed ceramic should be handled with care. For routine cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth; when necessary, you can gently wipe with a cloth lightly dampened with water and immediately dry the surface. Avoid harsh detergents, abrasive sponges, impacts, and thermal shock.
