The Dogon Mask is an African mask hand-carved from mango wood in Mali. The face is reduced to a geometric and highly stylized structure, where solid forms, carvings, and openings create a sharp sculptural sign. An artifact selected for its tactile quality and visual language rooted in Dogon tradition.

Product Description

The power of the Dogon Mask lies above all in its synthesis. The face is not depicted naturalistically: eyes, mouth, and profile are transformed into geometries and carvings capable of making the figure legible even from a distance.

The mango wood is carved, leaving distinct variations in depth. The most protruding parts catch the light, while carvings and cavities generate shadows that change throughout the day. The finish does not completely eliminate the material's characteristics and keeps visible the relationship between sculpted form and wood grain.

It can be mounted on a wall as a standalone element or displayed on a stand, alongside art books and objects from different cultures. In a contemporary interior, I would avoid an excessively "ethnic" arrangement: isolated, the graphic quality of the carving emerges with greater clarity.

Use and care

Do not wet the wood and do not use detergents, waxes, or non-specific polishing products. Dust with a soft, dry cloth and protect from persistent humidity and direct sunlight.

The charm of handmade
