Seme is a small black ceramic sculpture from Sejnane, freely hand-modelled by Najed and polished with river stones. The spherical and compact shape recalls a seed, a meteorite, or a small terrestrial core.

The black surface, streaked with grey and metallic reflections, is the result of firing with fire and smoke.

Product Description

Najed builds Seme without a lathe, working the clay to achieve a full, compact volume. The sphere is not geometrically perfect: slight variations in the profile keep the hand’s touch visible and give the form an organic quality.

The black color does not come from applying glaze. During firing under straw, smoke penetrates the surface and generates hues ranging from charcoal to gunmetal gray. Polishing with river stones compacts the material and produces subtle metallic reflections.

Its contained dimensions allow it to be placed on a desk, a shelf, on top of some books, or within a composition of small objects. It can be observed, touched, and easily moved, maintaining the character of an intimate and tactile sculpture.

Use and care

Seme is designed as a decorative sculpture or paperweight. Terracotta is porous: do not wet it or use cleaning products. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for cleaning.

The charm of handmade

The shape, polishing, and nuances produced by smoke cannot be replicated mechanically. Each Seme retains its own density and surface pattern. A small work selected by Vicode for the value of its material and the expressive power contained within an essential form.
