Cobalt Tension – Geometric Sculpture in Blue Glazed Stoneware

In Cobalt Tension, geometry does not seek stability. Two large diagonals cross the structure and converge towards the base, generating a composition that seems to continuously push in opposite directions.

The outer frame remains compact, almost square, while inside the material thins out and changes inclination. This creates triangular and trapezoidal openings that make emptiness an integral part of the design. It is not just what is missing: it is what allows the structure to find rhythm and lightness.

Viewed frontally, the sculpture has an almost graphic force. The diagonals form a succession of V's and inverted V's that guide the eye through the piece. Changing the angle, however, the seven centimeters of depth radically alter this reading: the inclined planes become surfaces, the openings gain thickness, and the object takes on a decidedly architectural presence.

The cobalt blue enamel accentuates the complexity of the form. In the most illuminated areas, it can appear lighter and brighter; inside the cavities, it becomes deep, almost nocturnal. Small reflections and chromatic variations follow the edges and make the surface different with every change of light.

The brilliance of the enamel coexists with slight irregularities, marks, and variations in the material. It is this controlled imperfection that prevents the geometry from becoming sterile and keeps the ceramic character of the object evident.

Selected in La Bisbal d’Empordà, Cobalt Tension belongs to Echoes of Geometry, the Vicode collection dedicated to forms in which structures, openings, and modules are stripped of any function and observed exclusively for their ability to construct space.

On a console, a bookcase, or a shelf, the blue hue introduces a decisive accent; by leaving clear space behind the openings, even what is in the background visually enters the composition.
