Sfumato Marowa is a designer ceramic vase from Sejnane, hand-moulded by the artisan Marowa.

The high-necked shape features a natural gradient that starts from the smoky black of the base and reveals the orange terracotta at the top. The surface is smoothed with river stones.

Product Description

Marowa builds the vase by progressively layering coils of clay, using a manual technique that does not involve the use of a potter's wheel. The body develops in height with a slightly sinuous profile, where small asymmetries preserve the memory of the modeling process.

The chromatic transition is generated directly by firing. The lower part, exposed longer to straw smoke, takes on black and metallic tones; moving up towards the neck, the smoke lessens, revealing the warm color of terracotta. No glazes are used to create this transition.

Polishing with river stones compacts and softens the surface. Due to its proportions and weight, the vase is ideally placed on a deep sideboard, a central table, or a low pedestal, where it can also be observed from the side.

Use and Care

Low-fired terracotta retains its natural porosity. Use the vase as a decorative sculpture or with dry arrangements; do not pour water into it. Dust with a soft, dry cloth.

The Charm of Handmade

This piece originates from the ceramic knowledge of the women of Sejnane, recognized by UNESCO, and falls outside the logic of serial production. Variations in shape, smoke effects, and color are the authentic result of manual work and make each piece unique. A design accent selected by Vicode for its material, its history, and its character.
