Farida's Thorns is a designer black ceramic vase from Sejnane, hand-shaped and polished with river stones. The spherical body is covered with conical protrusions that transform its surface into a sculptural and tactile texture.

The black, grey, and bluish hues result from fire and smoke firing.

Product Description

Farida builds the volume entirely by hand, without using a potter's wheel. The spherical shape is then animated by numerous conical protrusions, shaped and applied one at a time to create a continuous and irregular surface.

The black color does not come from applying glaze. During traditional firing under straw, smoke penetrates the clay and produces tones ranging from charcoal to gunmetal gray, with occasional bluish reflections. Polishing with river stones compacts the surface and highlights the reliefs.

The vase can be displayed on a sideboard, a coffee table, or a low pedestal, preferably leaving free space around the form. The texture already possesses a strong identity and does not require the addition of floral elements.

Use and care

Sejnane terracotta is low-fired and retains a natural porosity. Use the piece as a decorative sculpture or for dry arrangements; do not fill it with water. Clean only with a soft, dry cloth.

The charm of handmade

Farida’s “Spine” originates from the ceramic knowledge of the women of Sejnane. The differences between the protrusions, the nuances of the smoking, and the slight asymmetries of the form narrate the artisan's touch and make each piece unique. A vase selected by Vicode for its primordial and tactile strength.
