Meteora di Terra is a ceramic sculpture bowl from Sejnane, freely hand-modeled by artisan Mufida.

The low, compact volume is covered with organic reliefs, while the firing and smoke process creates natural nuances ranging from black to ash gray and ochre. It is part of the Malles x Vicode collection.

Product Description

Mufida creates Meteora di Terra without using a potter's wheel, developing a low, compact shape around a wide opening. The exterior is enlivened by protuberances, individually sculpted, which break the continuity of the surface and make the profile appear different from every angle.

The coloration does not come from applied pigments or glazes. During traditional firing under straw, contact with fire and smoke leaves black, gray, and ochre areas on the clay. Polishing with seashells compacts some parts of the surface, while still allowing the traces of the working process to remain visible.

It can be placed on a coffee table, a credenza, or a deep shelf. The shape can hold small dry objects, but it maintains a more intense presence when left empty and observed as a horizontal sculpture.

Use and care

Sejnane terracotta is low-fired and retains a natural porosity. Use Meteora di Terra as a decorative element or for holding dry objects; do not pour water or liquid food inside. Dust with a soft, dry cloth.

Reliefs, nuances, and slight asymmetries document every stage of Mufida’s work. The shape is not born from a mold, and the pattern produced by the fire cannot be replicated. A ceramic piece selected by Vicode for the value of the women's traditional knowledge in Sejnane and for the contemporary strength of its material.
